I love your page. I've recently been seeing a lot of mixed media and other websites that aren't really social media on TikTok, like cool things to look at on the internet like Neocities, SpaceHey, BitView, etc., and these are some cool new internet places with amazing art I've been checking out.

Hello KittyKat! YES I have been really loving Neocities as a social media alternative-- it is still social media-like in a way, since you're still able to follow people's profiles and like and comment, but even that feature can be turned off on here if you'd like. It's certainly not algorithm-based, and that's what makes it so special definitely check out nekoweb too, its arguably even better than Neocities feature-wise (I just know a lot less people who use it)! But it's also a fantastic place to host a website. If you want to see a bunch of websites I personally find cool, check out my neighbors page!

i’m not sure what happened as i dont follow too many people. based on your words though: it’s very difficult to gather tone or communication online. especially with strangers. in my experience, i always feel either too edgy or passive aggressive when i choose to use or not use emotes. at the end of the day though, it is very ridiculous to jump to conclusions about a persons tone and intention based on EMOJIS! i’m sure you get what i mean! this is yet one of the many examples of how the public internet, even neocities, isn’t a conducive place to communicate. :/ people will assume the worst and love to shit on others for terribly petty reasons. please don’t worry too much about whoever that is ^^
Hello Limo I appreciate the kind words. It is certainly difficult to deduce tone over text, especially in an age where emotes (which were originally created specifically to convey a certain tone) are often used passive-aggressively. I try to use emotes and exclamation points (!!!) to convey that I am pretty positive overall, but I suppose if someone doesn't look at my website or scroll down my profile they wouldn't really know that about me. It was a bit strange to me to jump straight to the "hostile" conclusion, but I understand how it could happen if you aren't in a great headspace. Overall, though, I have found Neocities to be the most positive online environment that I have encountered, and I have never decided to be hateful or passive-aggressive or mean to anyone on here -- and I plan for that to continue to be the case! I quite enjoy it here. Thank you for your words
